Charles E. Watson

Born 9/13/1937 in Chicago, Illinois, died 3/9/2017 in Columbus, Ohio. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents William and Enola Watson. He is survived by his only child, Gwen E. Watson of Columbus, Ohio, his companion Mary Hopper Howell of Lancaster, Ohio and his beloved dog, Sophie.

Chuck graduated from Park College in 1959 where he sang with the Park Singers.

Chuck worked for Chemical Abstracts Service as a Systems Analyst, retiring in 1997.

Finding his love of music as a young man, Chuck played the saxophone and sang in school choirs. He later went on to sing in many church choirs. In 1968, he realized his real love was barbershop harmony. He sang with The Singing Buckeyes Chorus in Columbus, Ohio and The Southern Gateway Chorus in Cincinnati, Ohio and also sang with several quartets. He enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally with the barbershop society. Chuck was a contest administrator judge in numerous competitions. Serving in various roles at the district level, as well as the national level, he ultimately served as president of SPEBSQSA.

A memorial service will be held on April 1, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Christian Community Church, 5586 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio 43235.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harmony Foundation International, 110 Seventh Ave. N. Suite 200, Nashville, TN 37203. The service will be officiated by Dr. Gene Folden of Linworth United Methodist Church
