Bertha D. Pennington Ison (Bert) went home to Heaven on Good Friday, April 14, 2017, after many struggles with her health and with dementia. Bert was born December 31, 1936, in Elna, Kentucky, to the late Ronald and Delia (Fyffe) Pennington, growing up in Johnson County, Kentucky.

Bert married Autie Ison on January 22, 1958 and they resided and raised their family on Columbus’ west side. Her beloved Autie preceded her in death May 2016. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister Nova, brothers Ronnie, Bronard, Eudell, and Charlie.

A resourceful, tough, and hard-working homemaker, wife and mother, Bertha is survived by daughters Tammy (Henry) Sexton and Carla (Lance) Boswell, son Steve Ison; grandchildren Hallie, Mallory, Andrew, Emma, Leah, and Summer; sister Judy (Dean) Penrod, brother Jim Pennington, sisters-in-law Alta Blevins, Genett Ison, Betty Ison, and several nieces and nephews. Bertha was a Christian, and was a member of Alder Chapel Church.

Friends may call on Tuesday April 18, 2017 from 4-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 19, 2017 at 11am with Pastor Charles Smith officiating, and burial to follow at Spring Lawn Cemetery in Williamsport, OH. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.
