Jeraldine Henderson, known as Jerri Henderson was born of the late Gordon Henderson Sr and the late Charlotte Louise Henderson. Jerri accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church (North)-during her childhood and early teen years. Later, as an adult she joined the Hosack Street Baptist Church. Jerri earned her Master Degree from The Ohio State University and her Bachelor Degree from Capitol University. She was a State of Ohio licensed Social Worker. Jerri began her professional career in the capacity of Counselor in Newark Ohio's Moundbuilders Guidance Center, were she served as the agency's first Cultural Diversity Coordinator. Later she served in the agency's Emergency Services (ES) Unit as Specialist Triage Counselor. She was the recipient of many awards and much recognition. Among them were: National Cultural Diversity Award, Counselor Award for Community Involvement, and The Ohio State University Victor Bloomfield Scholarship Award. Jerri was a scholar and a leader, a member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society, and a two time recipient of Capital University Dean's list. She was affiliated with the following organizations: Capital University Alumni Association, Columbus Urban League, Scouts of America, Friends of the Homeless, Franklin County Mental Health Association and the National Association of Social Workers. Jerri was noted for her poetry and written materials. She was also a pianist, singer and author. For several years she worked for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services and retired from The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, EEO Division. Family and friends will forever cherish Jerri's memory, but most of all they will remember her for her sound advice and guidance. Jerri is survived by son Dondi Eugene Henderson, grandson Eugene Henderson, siblings Edna Willingham, Beverly Ross, Richard Henderson and Stephen Henderson. Preceded in death by brother Gordon Henderson Jr.
Friends may call at the Hosack Street Baptist Church, 1160 Watkins Rd., Columbus, OH 43207 on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 9am until time of service at 10am with Pastor Jonathan Morehead officiating.
Burial to follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, Columbus, OH.
