Leslie Wayne Wimer, 69, of Columbus, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017 at his residence.

He was born June 11, 1948 in Columbus to William and Margaret Wimer.

Leslie was preceded in death by his father, William; grandparents, Wayne and Glenna Dumm; daughter, Nannette Walters and aunt, Phyllis Dumm.

He attended and graduated from Whetstone High School in 1966.

In 1967 Leslie joined the Navy and was on the U.S.S. Turnerjoy, a destroyer in the Viet Nam War.

In the Navy he was a second class petty officer, electrician mate on the Turnerjoy.

After the service he became a thirty-second degree Mason.

Leslie worked for Ohio Bell as a Senior Power Technician and retired from there after 39 years of service from 1972-2011.

In 1972 Leslie attended Franklin University earning four degrees.

He was also a lifetime member of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church.

Leslie is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Cathy; mother, Margaret; son, Christopher; daughter, Evette (Eric) Polei; grandchildren, Matthew, Kaitlyn and Meghan Walters; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jean Wimer.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Green Lawn Cemetery.
