Roger attended Franklin Heights HS and retired from National Can Corp. after 30 years. Roger served in the US Navy and was stationed with the Fighter Squadron Fourteen at NAS Cecil Field Navy Air Base in Jacksonville, FL from Feb. 4, 1960 to Jan. 6, 1964. Roger was very active in the church. He attended the West Broad Church of the Nazarene where he loved to sing.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Pauline Matthews; sister, Sandy; and brother, Doug. Survived by wife, Carol; children, Rhonda (Bruce) Sexton, Roger Jr. (Christi) Matthews, Reneé (Rick) Beasley, and Rusty Matthews; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Judy, Bonnie, Kay, and Paula; many nieces, and nephews.
Throughout his life, Roger made many friends and forever will be remembered by his kind heart, generous spirit, hard work ethic, and a never ending beautiful smile.
Visitation Sunday, May 13, 2018 from 4-7pm at Newcomer, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Graveside Service Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10am at Sunset Cemetery, Galloway, OH.
