She was born November 18, 1935 in Norwood, GA, and moved to Columbus in 1953.
Jannie worked numerous jobs and touched the lives of many during her career, of which White Cross Hospital (now Riverside Hospital), Western Electric, Lazarus and Worthington Foods (where she retired in 2005) were among her favorites.
She was an active member of Frebis Avenue Church of God for many years until she joined her family church, Mt. Vernon AME, where she served as an usher and participated in Wednesday night bible study.
Jannie was a caring mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, who had a thoughtful spirit and a giving heart. Ever faithful, Jannie diligently prayed blessings for all she came in contact with, and had a way of making everyone in her life feel special and loved.
Daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Brinkley Green, Jannie was preceded in death by her sisters, Katherine Green, Lillie Hampton, Annie Pearl Reese, Rebecca Ellis and Bertha Toomer; brothers, Charlie, James, Melvin, Eugene, and George Green.
She is survived by her children, Sheila Watterson, Allison (Melvin) Wilder, Andrea (Allen) Cook and Clayton (Samantha) Freeman; sister, Daisy Parks; brothers, Jack, Robert H. (Mary), Jasper L. (Shirley), and Leroy Green; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 9:00-10:00 AM at Mt. Vernon AME Church, 1127 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Columbus, with the funeral service beginning at 10:00 AM.
Interment will be in Northlawn Memory Gardens.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd., Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Rd., Columbus, OH 43215.
