Richard Lewis Baker, 71, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 in Columbus.

Rick was born June 21, 1947 to Paul and Janet (Heskett) Baker in Cambridge Ohio. “Bakes” as he was fondly called, graduated in 1969 from Ohio University and his first job out of college was with the Mansfield City Schools where he remained for 45 years and where he engaged and inspired students and his colleagues alike. Many remember him as a mentor who taught not only Latin and English but also greater life lessons that guided to future success. Upon retiring from Mansfield Schools he continued to teach, instructing ex-offenders in the Alvis GED program in Columbus, helping many students obtain their GED and to successfully re-enter society. He served as Music Director for Diamond Hills Baptist Church for 29 years, where he was also a Deacon.

Survived by Brother Randy Baker (Sue), Columbus and Sister Brenda Wood (Greg) Westerville, 6 nieces and 8 great nieces and nephews.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents and Sister Constance Simon of Cambridge.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:00 am at Diamond Hills Baptist Church, 647 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, OH.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diamond Hills Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
