Susan Marie Brookins
1951 - 2021

Susan Brookins, age 70, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2021 after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Sue loved hosting her family for meals and holidays. With a cup of coffee in hand, Sue rarely sat down, busying herself baking her famous fried chicken, lasagna or German Chocolate Cake and doting on those around her.

She most cherished her role as “Mamaw” for her four grandchildren. Sue was extremely committed to her long, proud career as a Palliative Care Nurse. As a single mom with three kids, Sue graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1994 from Mount Carmel College of Nursing, earning a BSN. She was proud to be an RN and served as a Unit Manager at Westminster Thurber several years before going on to receive an Advanced Practice nursing degree (APRN). She moved to the corporate office and assisted in starting a new hospice program, then called Senior Independence. While Sue was proud to be a nurse, her true calling was hospice work. It is only fitting that at the end of her own life, she was met with the most compassionate care from the heroes at Capital City Hospice.

Her love was a “love of hard knocks;” she told you how it was, whether you liked it or not. While typically a stoic lady, she was known to excitedly shout “YAHTZEE” during her favorite game, or even a rare profanity when winning a scratch-off. Sue was known for her stubbornness, which her children believe kept her fighting until the very end. She was deeply loved for each of these qualities. Sue was an important presence for so many people and will be sorely missed.
Sue is preceded in death by parents, Don and Catherine Brown, and late husband, Charles “Chick” Griffith.
Sue is survived by her children Elisabeth (Eric) Langenfeld , Christopher Griffith and Laura (Jeremy) Erwin and her grandchildren Cayden and Elijah Erwin, Josephine and Ava Langenfeld; brothers and sisters Steve (Bernie) Brown, David (Laura) Brown, Sr. Ann Brown O.Carm, Don (Monica) Brown, Mike Brown, Barbara (Dennis) Anderson and Catherine Cosgray; plus many nieces and nephews.

Donations can be made in Sue’s memory to Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr. #170, Columbus, Ohio 43231.
