Richard O. Greene
1948 - 2022

Richard O. Greene, 73, of Columbus, passed away Saturday, January 8th, 2022. Rich was born April 15, 1948 in Columbus, OH to Richard L. and Valera “Teen” (Hush) Greene. Rich Greene loved life, his family, his friends, the arts, and baking. Rich enjoyed singing and, starting at age nine, was an active member of several choirs and choruses, including Columbus Symphony Chorus, Columbus Chamber Singers, St Philip’s Men’s Choir, and St Philip’s Chancel Choir. He even performed at Carnegie Hall twice. Rich enjoyed being involved in community theater in the Columbus area. He performed in many shows over the years, but he took pleasure in being a house manager even more. He was a great house manager for Little Theatre off Broadway in Grove City, CATCO, and most recently the Ohio and Palace Theaters. Rich believed CAPA, and its theaters, are invaluable treasures in Columbus, and was honored to participate in them. Rich was an avid reader, which led him to earn a Bachelors of Arts in English Language and Literature from Ohio State University and a Masters of Library and Information Science from Case Western Reserve. He had a long career at OCLC and his work made significant contributions to libraries and library automation and development. Rich always stayed busy volunteering at his children’s school library, OSU Hospital, and WOSU, to name a few. Rich loved to travel and in recent years, traveled to Istanbul and saw the Hagia Sophia, something he wanted to see since age 12. Rich will be deeply missed by Tyberia, his wife of 47 years; children Seth Greene and Sarah (Jon) Miner; grandson Xander Greene; brothers Rick (Karen) Greene and Steve (Kayo) Greene; sister Kenda Kaiser. Rich was preceded in death by his parents Richard Greene and Valera “Teen” Knapp, brother Fred Lambert, and grandson Jareth Greene. Visitation will be Thursday, January 20th, from 5pm to 8pm at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 22 at 1pm at St. Philip Episcopal Church, 166 Woodland Ave, Columbus. Interment of ashes will be at St. Philip Episcopal Church Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, The James Cancer Hospital at OSU, or The Prostate Cancer Foundation.
