In Memory Of
Alice Ann Hayhurst Mitchell
1938 - 2022

Alice Ann Hayhurst Mitchell, 84, of Columbus, OH, danced her way into the loving arms of her eternal Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, May 2, 2022. She was surrounded by her family with prayers and songs of worship. Alice was born on March 17, 1938, to the late Merton E. and Dorothea L. Hayhurst of Columbus, OH. Alice was a member of the St. Augustine cheerleading squad, Blue & Gold, as well as a graduate of St. Joseph Academy High School, class of 1956. In her earlier years, Alice was employed with the Brown Steel Co., Woolco, and H&R Block. She was an active parishioner at St. Stephen the Martyr Church of over 50 years, where she sang in the choir, taught religious education, was a Eucharistic minister with her late husband, Jim, and a valued member of the vicariate. She also was a long-time member of the parish Women's Club, as well as a member of the Association of Notre Dame de Namur Southwest Quadrant. Throughout the years, she faithfully volunteered as a Girl Scout assistant Leader, an activities director at a local extended care facility, NCH Burn Unit, and worked with the residents of the Heinzerling Memorial Foundation. Alice and Jim actively delivered meals to the shut-ins and served at the Holy Family Soup kitchen on a regular basis. Her life passions included dancing, singing, home decorating, sewing, cooking/baking, drawing, swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, billiards, entertaining, and traveling the world with her children and grandchildren. She had an affinity for animals and her garden. She's known to have spent hours on end with her hands in the dirt planting, creating floral arrangements, and nursing dying plants back to life! With a heart as vast as the universe, Alice was continuously thinking of and doing for others. She was a faithful and mighty prayer warrior for all who have been privileged to know her. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, ORNERY personality, and witty sense of humor! She was preceded in death by her life-long loving husband, Jim of 55 years (2013), and son, John Mitchell (2020). She is survived by sons, Michael Mitchell, David (Susan) Mitchell, and daughter, Sandy (Tony) McClung; sisters, Marilyn Hayhurst White and Julie Hayhurst Koday; sister-in-love, Judy (Ivan) Woltmann; grandchildren, Lindsey (Matthew) Reeves, Nathan (Anmarie) Epling, Jacob (Lisa) Epling, Moriah (Kyle) Falkosky, Isaiah (Brittany) Epling, Elijah Epling, Brett (Dawn) McClung, Cameron McClung; eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins, as well as dear friends and neighbors.
