In Memory Of
Ross Michael Bechant
1980 - 2022

Ross Michael Bechant was a beloved son and friend to many during his incredible 41 years of life. He passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday, June 20, 2022 with his family by his side, providing comfort and strength to begin his next journey. Ross was born December 1, 1980 to Elaine and Neal Bechant in Columbus, Ohio.

Ross was met with many challenges from the start. He was born with a rare autosomal recessive genetic disease called Mucolipidosis Type IV (ML4). Most people affected by this disease die in their early adult years. Ross has lived a wonderful life far beyond the expectations of his doctors. Most of this can be attributed to the extraordinary care of his family and the many dedicated doctors at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Ross was a lover of music and live theater. He enjoyed Broadway musicals, the Symphony, music from the Rat Pack, concerts at the Park of Roses, concerts at Easton, anywhere that Ross could grab a few bars of music, he would. He held season tickets to the Broadway Series and saw many plays performed by the Columbus Children’s Theater.

Prior to losing his ability to eat solid food, Ross was an absolute connoisseur of fine food. His mother was an extraordinary cook and he loved her dishes the best. However, he had his favorites away from home like MCL mashed potatoes, Stouffer’s spinach souffle, Michelina’s fettuccine alfredo, Reese’s cups, pumpkin pie, and eggplant parmigiana and applesauce. Ross was a man of great faith. Nothing made him happier than attending mass at St. Matthew’s Church where he has been a lifelong member. When unable to do so, he spent many hours listening to masses on TV and participating along with the priest. During times of duress, Ross was able to find comfort in his faith. Ross is survived by his father Neal Bechant, sister and brother-in-law Meridith and John Siefert, and their children James, Madeleine, Matthias and Jillian. Ross is preceded in death by his mother Elaine Elorza Bechant.

Ross leaves behind an extraordinary team of devoted family members, advocates and professionals who have been touched immeasurably by his life. With their never ending support, he has been a teacher, a friend, a comedian, a son, a brother and a lover of life.

Anyone who was involved in Ross’ life was forever changed by his presence. He will be missed beyond words. We love you, Rossman, Ross! A Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022 at St. Matthew’s church. A luncheon will follow immediately after.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Morningview Care Center Community Services at 635 Brooksedge Blvd. Westerville, Ohio 43081 with a memo to ADS client.
