1949 - 2018

Roger Slaughter died unexpectedly in Mount Carmel St. Ann’s on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in Westerville, Ohio at the age of 68.

Roger is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Mary Slaughter; his children Tabitha Slaughter, Yalonda (Paul) Harper, Stephanie Hairston, Calvin (Natalie) Hairston, Amber King, Jonathan (Rosalyn) Slaughter, all of Columbus, OH; siblings Geraldine Armstrong of Chicago, IL and David (Valoria) Slaughter of Worthington, OH; grandchildren Daryl, Olivia, Titus, Tyler, Kennedy, Nijah, Kristopher, Nadia, Makayla, Myles, Ezekiel; close friend and brother-in-law Jim McCray; and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, and other friends and family too numerous to name. He is preceded in death by parents Jesse and Alberta Slaughter; siblings Jimmy Slaughter, Betty McCray, Ralph Slaughter, Lionel Slaughter, Linda Slaughter; and grandson Darius.

Roger was born September 11, 1949 in Tuskegee, Alabama to Jesse and Alberta Slaughter. He spent many years living with his family in Chicago, IL until he relocated to Columbus, OH. Roger was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1964 and was associated with the Forest Park Congregation for 14 years and recently with the Northeast Congregation in Columbus, OH. He shared his faith with others for more than 50 years, including years as a full-time minister during his retirement.

We fondly remember his laughter, strong handshakes and immeasurable intelligence. He was always talking about someone “shucking corn” or being a “jive turkey.” We "sho nuff" also remember his good friend "Jack."

A memorial talk is scheduled for Friday, March 30, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2500 McCutcheon Rd, Columbus, OH 43219. In lieu of flowers, please contact the family about donation arrangements.
