In Memory Of
Michael - Gerard Moncman DO F.A.C.O.S.
1952 - 2018

Dr. Michael-Gerard Moncman passed peacefully on Saturday October 13, 2018 at the age of 65. He was born October 25, 1952 to Anna Marie Moncman in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, and love of his life, Patricia Sanders Moncman; children, Rob Tribeck (Karen), Alexis Miloszewski (Matthew), and Dr. Ryan Moncman (fiancé Tara); grandchildren, Brendan, Lauren, Jack, and Ava; and sister-in-law Molly Chrisko and brother-in-law John Sanders (Pam).

Dr. Moncman was a 1974 graduate of Allentown College (now DeSales University) and received a Masters Degree in Biology from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. in 1977. He received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983. Following medical school, Dr. Moncman completed an internship at Allentown Osteopathic Hospital and his general surgery residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. From 1983 through 1987, he completed his residency in Neurosurgery at Metropolitan Hospital in Philadelphia. He received his Master of Science in Neurosurgery from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1987 and his board certification in Neurosurgery in 1990. He was named a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons in 1994 and, in 2018, was selected by his peers in the College to receive the College’s highest honor, the Orel F. Martin Award.

During his career, Dr. Moncman practiced in Altoona, Pennsylvania (1987-2006), Dayton, Ohio (2006-2009) Columbus, Ohio (2009-2018), and, most recently at Genesis Hospital, in Zanesville, Ohio. His career was marked by caring for patients, but also teaching those around him how to question and to be intellectually independent. He trained both residents and staff and served on boards, and in other leadership capacities, at every hospital and community where he worked. He served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Wright State University, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh, and the Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program at Doctors Hospital, Grant Medical Center.

He was happiest when he was with loved ones, providing advice to family members and young doctors on everything from esoteric neurosurgical concepts to cooking, answering every trivia question ever posed, sharing stories and laughing while manning the grill, or shaking martinis. He left an indelible mark on the lives that he touched and will surely be missed.
