We knew Doug when he had the gold , coin and antiques shop on high street. We bought gold and diamonds and precious stones from him. He was such a great guy to deal with and trusted us implicitly. Was such a wonderful fella we loved going to his shop regularly. Loved going to the DOO-DAH parade and seeing him. So sorry for your loss I know he will be missed terribly.

So many fun and funny stories to tell about Doug Ritchey, The Last, Emperor of the Short North and Barron of the Bottoms.
I will miss Doug tremendously. He was one of my very closest friends and a mentor. He was always a gentleman and a tease, always had a great story, always loved to talk about his girls and grandkids, always just a wonderful and kind person. Three decades of friendship that I'll forever cherish.
Blessings, Doug. Rest in Peace my dear friends. Say hello to the old gang for me. They're all waiting for the Emperor to show in your new clothes.
I'll see you again some day. Condolences to the family.

I can't think of Doug without smiling. He was a wonderfully warm human, and had a wry sense of humor. He'd do anything he could to help anybody. And none of that comes close to describing what a special gut he was. He was one of the very good ones.

I knew Doug from just about the time we opened our gallery in the Short North (before it was the Short North) in 1980. His coin shop was a fun place with lots of costume jewelry to rummage through. Then ONCE morphed into Ritchey's at 714 and things got even better. Doug was a beacon of silliness and completely at home with all the weirdos, kool kids, wannabe artists, punks and suburbanites that populated the area back in the '80s. He was a very good guy. I will miss him.

Emperor of the Short North, I salute you! Hearing of your passing means the world is a bit less cool, but the afterlife got cooler!
I hope you're back to hanging with my brother as you did on Earth when you both occupied it, and I hope you're having fun.
I love you, Brother and I look forward to our next meeting. Save me a spot at the bar!

Although I have not seen Doug in quite a few years I thought of him nearly every day. We worked together and had endless conversations about well everything. He will be missed by all he touched. Oh Captain my Captain I shall see you on the other side.??????
