Cameron Shemar Kates “Cam”, 19, passed away on March 27, 2021.

A 2020 graduate from Centennial High School, he also attended Kentucky State University.

Cameron loved basketball and played Point Guard/Shooting Guard for Centennial JV and Varsity Boys Basketball. He also played AAU basketball for Hidden Gems and Ohio Elite. Kobe Bryant was his all-time favorite basketball player.

Cameron received numerous medals in chess and several trophies, awards and accolades in basketball.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Melvin E. Blair, grandmother Carrie Louise Kates, and his uncle Donald E. Kates.

Surviving family includes his mother Meshell Blair, his father Tracy Kates, brother and best friend Amani Kates, grandmother Sylvia Blair, grandfather Michael J. Kates Sr., his loving and devoted girlfriend Adriana Holland, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Cameron also had very special and important people in his life: Summer Brown, Jaylan Brown-Flemister, Deshaun Flemister, Junior, Tori and Arthur.

Cameron was a member of Maize Road Baptist Church and services will be officiated by Pastor Shawn Hensley.

Visitation will be Friday, April 9, 2021 from 2pm to 4pm and from 6pm to 8pm at Newcomer NE Chapel 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus. Funeral Service will be Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 10am at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Newcomer Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
