1933 - 2021

Russell W. Gardner Sr., age 87, passed away on June 3, 2021. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 19, 1933 to the late John Edwin Gardner and Gladys Rose Cochrun. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and children, Jane Ann Southworth and Mark W. Gardner. He is survived by his siblings, Ralph (Linda) Gardner and Patricia (Dan) McKee; children, Linda (Russell) Perry, Richard (Connie) Whiting, Dan (Julie) Gardner, Jerry (Melissa Smith) Gardner, Russell Gardner Jr.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Russ attended West high school. He then joined the U.S. armed forces and served during the Korean War. During his time of service he taught mechanics which became his life long career. He retired after 47 years with Automotive Spring Services. He was a Past Post Commander of American Legion Paschall Post 164 Grove City and was Legionaire of the year for 91/92. He enjoyed Camp Chase history and exploring grave yards. He loved to share stories about his hometown, family, and friends.
During Russ' life, he fought and made sacrifices for his country and his family without expectations.
He will be remembered as a soldier, craftsman, teacher, story teller, protector, and a beloved father and grandfather. Friends may gather at the NEWCOMER SOUTHWEST CHAPEL 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
