He was born of modest means, a twin, and attended John Carroll University and was drafted into the Army where he served primarily in Germany. During this time he was engaged to Maryann Baran, whom he married in 1959 and had 7 children. He worked at The Higbee Department Store in Cleveland, where he began his career in retailing, working his way up from a Buyer of Housewares to Regional President of the chain. He was loved by his colleagues for his great energy and caring nature. In his retirement, he had great joy spending time with his wife Maryann (who passed in 2001) and his children and grandchildren and doing volunteer work and mentoring young business people.
He was predeceased by his Mother, Father, first born son John and his beloved wife Maryann. He married a schoolmate, Virginia Malik McGinty in 2010 and spent 11 happy years with her. He is survived by his second wife, Virginia Malek McGinty, Twin sister Joan McGinty Arnold, sister Patty McGinty Hopkins, 6 children: Andrea McGinty, Jim McGinty, Joanne McGinty, Jacqueline McGinty Lange, Jerry McGinty, Timothy McGinty, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 16 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 1-3 p.m., at Newcomer NW Chapel, 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, Ohio 43065.
A Mass will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 11 a.m., at Resurrection Cemetery in the Chapel, 9571 High St, Lewis Center, OH 43035. Fr. Black, from St. Joan of Arc, will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Resurrection.
