2003 - 2022

Michael Joseph Hooffstetter 19, passed away tragically July 24, 2022 while swimming with friends in Lake Michigan. Michael was born January 20, 2003 in Columbus, Ohio. He attended Grove City High School and graduated in 2021 with a 4.013 GPA while taking 3 Advanced Placement and 4 College Credit Plus classes. He ranked 53 out of 424 students and made honor roll 15 out of 16 opportunities. He played freshman and 3 years varsity basketball and football his senior year.
Michael was attending Capital University where he was on the Dean’s list majoring in Criminology and Psychology. He planned to pursue a career as a police officer after graduation because he wanted “to help people”. He played Defensive End for the Capital Comets football team and was looking forward to returning for his sophomore year.
Michael was a loyal New Orleans Saints and Pelicans fan. He enjoyed working out at the Grove City YMCA for hours, listening to all different genres of music, eating at Chipotle every day and reading his bible. Michael was a member of the New Life Baptist Church and attended youth group at The Naz and was baptized there on March 28, 2021. He was employed by FedEx and UPS at the time of his passing.
Michael was preceded in death by grandmother Norma Hooffstetter and grandfathers Phillip Hooffstetter and Arthur Collins. Michael is survived by mother Cathy (Collins) Hooffstetter, father Michael P Hooffstetter and brother Colton Hooffstetter. Michael also leaves saddened grandmother Zoe Collins, aunts and uncles Kim Wilson, Debbie Grimmette, Diana (Jim) Trager, Suzy (Dale) Jefferson, Tim (Cheryl) Collins, Lyle Collins; cousins Kevin Wilson, Kellie (Jason) Ratai, Tiffany Wilson, Bobbi Wilson, Jeffrey (Tonya) Strazdins, Laura Strazdins, Jennifer (Carlos) Garcia, Lynnsie Jefferson, Stephanie Grimmette, Michelle Grimmette: and special cousin Nolan Jarvis.
The family wishes to thank all of the first responders in Muskegon, Michigan involved in the search and recovery efforts. Thank you to everyone for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support.
