Ouida Marie Wheeler died peacefully Christmas morning while in the care of Hospice of Central Ohio. Ouida was born on February 27, 1956, at Lakenheath Air Force base, England to Dorothy (Horton) and Curtis Dunn. Because her father was a Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, she attended schools in multiple US states and Johnson High School in Japan before graduating in 1974 from John Jay High School in San Antonio, Texas. Ouida went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Franklin University. Ouida's career at Nationwide Insurance brought her to Columbus, Ohio where she retired after serving 35 years in various roles including accounting supervisor, business analyst, quality assurance manager, and project manager. Ouida lived a life of service, volunteering for many organizations including serving as Guardian ad Litem for CASA of Franklin County, numerous charity events such as the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship, Pelotonia, and for the Columbus based charitable organization Besa. In 2019 she was honored as the Volunteer of the Year by Besa. When Ouida and her husband made their recent move to Windsor, Colorado she quickly became active in both the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary.
Ouida was predeceased by her infant son Anthony, her parents, and by her beloved sister Pamela Miljak. Ouida is survived by her husband, Glen Wheeler, son Brian (Christina) Rousey, daughter Andrea (Aaron) Rock, stepdaughter Cassandra (Josh) Ringo, and stepson Nick (Tiffany) Wheeler. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Cooper and Lily Rousey, Kayla (William Wamack) Alexander, Bradley and Madison Rock, Jaicion, Taimire, and Dalia Ringo, and one great granddaughter Liberty Wamack. Ouida also leaves behind a sister Dianna and brother Curtis (Patty) Dunn, brother-in-law Mark Miljak, plus many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Newcomer in Grove City is handling the funeral arrangements. Calling hours will be from 5:00 - 8:00pm on Wednesday, January 4th. There will be a memorial service at the funeral home at 10:00am on Thursday, January 5th, and family and close friends are invited to attend the burial at Perryton Cemetery in Frazeysburg, Ohio, with a luncheon following at Black Run Farm, 10185 Black Run Rd, Frazeysburg, Ohio.
