In Memory Of
Clyde "Mr. Tire" Hampton
1937 - 2023

Clyde Hampton, fondly known to many as “Mr. Tire”, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 23rd, 2023. Clyde was born in Martin, Kentucky on April 19th, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Bess Hampton; his siblings, twin brother Clifford, Martin, Thomas, Magdalene, Steve, and Jesse; and grandson Haydn Robinson.

He is survived by his children, Kelly Hampton, Steve Hampton, Kim (Phil) Robinson, Jessica (Los and Gus) Giles; his grandson, Tylor (Midely) Pemberton; his sister, Shelby Spradlin; his sister-in-law, Brenda Hampton; and many nieces and nephews.

Clyde enlisted in the Marines in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1963. Upon moving to Columbus, he was first employed with The Redhead Gas Station, and this began a lifelong career in the tire business. After years with General Tire he founded his own business, Mr. Tire of Columbus, and enjoyed being a successful owner. The business was a big supporter of Ohio State athletics (he remained a Kentucky fan!), and if you ever visited his office you certainly knew it. Clyde was actively involved in fundraising for many charities, and always believed in giving back and helping children. Through his business ties with Ohio State he remained a steadfast supporter of causes he held near and dear. He really loved to help others. Clyde adored his family, and was a single parent to his children for many years. He would even fill in as ‘room mother’ at school whenever needed. He cherished spending time with his grandson Tylor, and made it to as many motocross events as he could. When not racing, they were golfing, fishing, and working together on the farm. He was one proud Grandpa. Clyde brought a smile to all who knew him, and he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 8th, 2023, from 2pm until 5pm, at the Newcomer Northeast Chapel, 3047 East Dublin Granville Rd., Columbus OH, 43231.

Military Honors will be presented at Newcomer upon the conclusion of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Nationwide Children’s Foundation 525 E. Mound Street Columbus, OH 43215 St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105
