Curtis Weldon "Curt" Kordel
1930 - 2023

Curtis Weldon "Curt" Kordel passed away on Sunday evening April 30th at the age of 93. He was born on January 30, 1930 to Richard and Thelma (Claytor) Kordel in Omega, Ohio. He grew up in Waverly, graduating as a proud Tiger of Waverly High School and would go on to reside in his beloved Ohio his entire life.

He is survived by daughter Susan McClure (John) of Bozeman, Montana; grandson Ben Tracy (Erin), great-grandchildren Jack, Charlie, Caroline, Will, and Scarlett of Newbury Park, California. Niece Victoria Kordel-McMillan (Mark) and nephew Mike Kordel of Indiana.

He is preceded in death by wife Marcie, great-grandson Henry, brother Bill, parents Richard and Thelma.

He was awarded the purple heart, bronze star, and United Nations medals for service in The United States Army in the Korean War.

Following his military service, he joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 1953 and after 31 years of service, retired as a Radio Technician III in July of 1984. He continued his technical career as a Computer Technician with the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services.

As a devout Christian, he served in several capacities at Fellowship Baptist Church of Dublin.

Throughout his entire life, Curt enjoyed traveling the country by automobile, especially the states of South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana, along with completing travel to all 50 States.

Susan and Ben would like to recognize the dedicated and compassionate staff of Gentiva Hospice of Columbus, especially Skyler, Maranda and Marina. Also, Will and Florence of Paramount Senior Living.

Visitation will be held from 10am to 12pm, Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, NW Chapel, 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, OH 43065, where a funeral service will begin at 12pm.

Burial to follow at Reber Hill Cemetery, Ashville, OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made in Curt's memory to the non-profit State Troopers of Ohio at 1900 Polaris Parkway, Suite 400, Columbus, Ohio 43240. Donations may also be made to the Gentiva Foundation at 540 Officenter Place, Suite 100, Gahanna, Ohio 43220.

Curt was a dedicated servant and true friend.
