Nancy Lee Wacker Johnson passed away on May 20, 2023. She was born in Lancaster, Ohio, on October 31, 1936, to parents Norbert Wacker and Phyllis Sharp Wacker.
Nancy is survived by daughters, Patricia Lynn Baker, Lorie Lee Skidmore and Lisa Jeanne Johnson; grandchildren Amanda (Kevin) Mulroony, Lindsey (Mark) Krugman, Chelsea (Matt) Cremean, Ashley (Danny) Vitale, Alex (Meghan) Skidmore, Ryan Preiss and Nicholas Preiss; great-grandchildren Quinn Mulroony, Logan Mulroony and Ameila Krugman; siblings John Wacker, James Wacker and Diana (Wayne) Overholts.
The family moved to Bexley, Ohio, when she was five years old. She attended Bexley schools and graduated with honors from Bexley High School.
She attended Heidelberg University, Bowling Green State University and graduated from The Ohio State University earning a BA degree in Social Administration, with a 3.5 grade point average.
Nancy married OSU classmate Alan Douglas Johnson, and they had three daughters Patricia, Lorie and Lisa.
She worked for nine years at Columbus and Franklin County Big Brothers & Big Sisters as a Caseworker supervising the Eastern half of Franklin County & Director of New Initiatives. She also taught adult classes for Mentorship Columbus.
Nancy had an avid interest in art and created Art Source Designers, a commercial art consulting business. She selected, purchased or commissioned, and installed art in commercial buildings and medical facilities. Installations included The Ronald McDonald House, Mt. Carmel West Medical Building, Mt. Carmel East, St. Anthony Substance Center, Muirfield Animal Hospital and The Elizabeth Blackwell Center at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Combining her love of art and her expertise organizing volunteers, Nancy joined the staff of the Columbus Museum of Art as Administrator of Volunteers. For 13 years, she directed CMA’s 1,500 volunteers and formed eight auxiliaries that supported the museum.
Following her retirement, she was anxious to continue serving her community. She accepted a position with the Dublin Food Pantry, and for 3 years, served as its first Executive Director. In 2016, Nancy received the 20 Outstanding Women of Central Ohio award.
Nancy’s greatest joy was her family. She also enjoyed sports and played Tennis & Platform Tennis competitively at Scioto Country Club.
She was blessed to be a member of Agora Church.
A private service has been planned. Any remembrances can be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.
