Alex J."Ted" Petrides

Alex J. "Ted" Petrides, 92, of Columbus, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012. Ted was born in Columbus, OH on February 7, 1920, to James A. and Edna (Smith) Petrides and is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Katherine Skinner.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley (Morgan) Petrides; daughters, Debbie Petrides, Alexis (Steve) Silknitter, Tonya Petrides; sons, James (Karen) Petrides and Timothy (Traci) Petrides; grandchildren, Athena, Alicia, Amanda, Alex, Jasmine, Ron, Tim, Morgan, Kyle, Wade; 7 great-grandchildren; niece and many friends.

Ted served in the US Army during WWII as a T-Sgt in the Western Pacific including Peleliu, Bataan, Saipan as well as other islands. His decorations and citations included the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/2 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal World War II.

Ted was an active leader of the Labor Movement for 65 years and served as business manager of Asbestos Workers Local 44.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012, 5-8 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
