It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing on April 16, 2019 of Alexis De'Anne Fudge, our loving and devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend to all whose lives she touched. Alexis left us after a long courageous fight against cancer. She was 32 years old.
Alexis was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and attended Columbus Public Schools where she graduated in 2005 from Brookhaven High School. She worked various jobs throughout her young life. She loved poetry and she loved music – all genres. One of her favorite pastimes was going out with her sisters, dancing to the music she loved.
First and foremost, Alexis was a dedicated mother to her daughter Saliyah, who she affectionately called "Shug". She treasured Saliyah and embraced every moment with her. Alexis was a mother to many. She loved the lip smacking, eye rolling and "okaaaayyy mom" response she got from her sisters when she mothered them. In her own loving way, she mothered her mother; she mothered her friends; she had a caring, mothering soul. One of her most selfless and endearing mothering roles was to open her heart and her home to her 3 nieces and nephew whom, while during her illness, she assumed temporary guardianship.
Alexis had a loving and caring personality; and a beautiful, contagious smile that made everyone around her smile. She also had a bossy side that she displayed when she cared and wanted the best for others, which was appreciated by all who knew her.
Alexis was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Peggy (Fudge) Howell, Frankie Byrd and Willie Gable Hodge; her 2 uncles LaMar and Ronald Fudge. She is survived by her daughter Saliyah Thomas-Fudge; her mother Lucretia (William) Fudge Sr and father Lucius Byrd; her sisters Lucretia Fudge Jr, Whitney Hodge, Corneshea Fudge, Brooklyn Byrd, and Latasha Sankey; her special nieces and nephew, Janiyah Fudge, Trinity Hodge, Carli Rae, Javona Parks and KingDyere Hodge; her nieces Sarenity Fudge, Eternity Hodge, Desire Morton, Frankie, Ayana, and Jurnee; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends! She will truly be loved and missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, April 24th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and services from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Mt Calvary Holy Church,1248 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Columbus, OH 43203.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and other medical personnel at the James Cancer hospital who cared for Alexis. The family would also like to thank all who donated to make the funeral and burial services possible.
