Anthony Eugene "Tony" Portis, affectionately known as "Tony", passed away surrounded by love and memories that will continue to live on through his family and all who knew him.
Tony was a devoted father, son, brother, and loved one whose presence brought strength and connection to those around him.
Tony spent periods of his life away from family, but through all that he endured, he showed a level of strength that defined who he was. He faced life's challenges with resilience and perseverance. His journey was not always easy, but his strength did not go unnoticed. Today, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, resting with a higher power, free from the burdens and suffering of this world.
Towards the end of his life, Tony was filled with excitement as he prepared to begin a new journey in North Carolina. While he looked forward to this chapter, we trust that God had a different plan, calling him home to eternal rest.
Those who knew Tony will also remember his unique and memorable way of speaking - often seeming to talk without moving his lips - an unforgettable trait that brought curiosity and a smile to many.
He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Eugene Portis Sr.; Grandparents Frank and Mary Wright, and Herbert S. Perkins.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Deborah Portis; grandmother Edith Perkins; his siblings, Brother Maurice Richardson (wife Benita Richardson) and their children, Marilyn Russell, Takia Thompson, Maurice Richardson Jr., and Mario Richardson; Brother Rachinne Portis, his children Atina Portis, Elijah Portis, and David Scott; and his only sister, Malikah Portis. His children, Terrence Ward, Antonio Kendrick, Lamar Kendrick, and Terrence Ward. He also leaves his daughter, Latoya Kendrick, along with a host of grandchildren and extended family, all of whom he loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date...
