Anthony Lamont Waugh
October 26, 1964 – January 7, 2026
Anthony Lamont Waugh, affectionately known as Tony, was born Anthony Lamont Stocks on October 26, 1964, in Columbus, Ohio, to Adell Stocks and James Scott. Following the untimely passing of his biological father, his mother later married James Waugh in 1970, at which time Tony’s legal name was changed to Anthony Lamont Waugh. Tony departed this life on January 7, 2026 after an extended fight with Kidney Cancer.
Tony was raised in Columbus and educated through the Columbus Public School System, graduating from Brookhaven Senior High School, Class of 1983. From an early age, he developed a deep love for basketball, music—particularly R&B and rap—and spending time with friends.
While at Brookhaven, Tony played varsity basketball, where he was known as a gifted shooter with exceptional ball-handling skills. His dedication to the game earned him the nickname “Tricks” for his ability to execute impressive moves on the court. One of his proudest moments came when he was featured in the Columbus Dispatch sports section following a high school basketball game. Tony continued to enjoy playing basketball throughout the city of Columbus at local parks and recreation centers.
As an adult, Tony worked several jobs before beginning a long and dedicated career with ServiceMaster Clean, where he was employed as a cleaning technician for nearly 30 years. He took great pride in his work and valued the independence and simplicity the role provided.
Tony was known for his easy-going nature and quiet demeanor. He valued his privacy, lived without unnecessary drama, and enjoyed meaningful connections with close friends and family. Above all, Tony deeply loved his family, especially his mother, and made it a priority to check in on her often.
Anthony Lamont Waugh was preceded in death by his parents and several grandparents.
He leaves to cherish his memory his grandmother, Ms. Pauline Waugh (Columbus, OH); his daughters, Shawnte Waugh (Columbus, OH), Tonnette Moore (Columbus, OH), and LaNees Moore (Cincinnati, OH); his brother, Gary (Ebony) Waugh (Coshocton, OH); his sister, Joy Waugh (Columbus, OH); his granddaughter, Noa Johnson Waugh (Columbus, OH); his uncles, James Stocks (Columbus, OH), Elvis Waugh (Columbus, OH), and Kurt Waugh (Bluefield, WV); his aunt, Derrion Harris (Columbus, OH); his nephews, Christopher Taylor (Lanham, MD) and Gary Waugh Jr. (St. Louis, MO); his niece, Bethany Waugh (St. Louis, MO); and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends across the United States.
