Arlene (Nitschke) Mayers, age 84, of Naples went to be with the Lord, November 19, 2017.
She was born in Fremont, Ohio on September 6, 1933, the daughter of the late Oliver and Ruth (Otermat) Nitschke.
Arlene graduated from Whitmer High school with the class of 1951 and with a Bachelors and Masters in Education from Bowling Green State University.
She was married on June 15, 1957 to Charles David Mayers. They shared 60 years of marriage together.
Survivors include her husband Charles (Chuck) Mayers of Naples, Florida; one daughter, Carla Mayers Bletsch and son in law Dan Bletsch of Orient, Ohio and one son, Mark Mayers and daughter-in-law, Jayne (White) Mayers of Grove City, Ohio; one grandson, Michael Mayers of Naples, Florida and one granddaughter, Marie Mayers of Oxford, MS.
Arlene was a 40 year resident of Bowling Green, Ohio working 30 years in the Bowling Green Public School System as an elementary school teacher. She also taught in Sandusky Perkins, Parma City and Washington Local school systems. She lived in Grove City, Ohio for 17 years spending winters in Naples, Florida. She has been a permanent Naples resident the past 4 years.
Arlene was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Bowling Green, Bethel Lutheran Church in Grove City and Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Naples.
She took pride in her family and her home, loved gardening, baking/making cookies and candy to share with friends and family, knitting/crocheting and sports. She loved to cheer for any sporting event but especially any game Michael was pitching. She was active in Phi Mu Sorority, League of Women Voters, P. E. O. and bible study. She is remembered fondly for her popcorn Fridays at Conneaut Elementary School, her molasses cookies, being the "mom" to the St. Mark's softball team, her knitted slippers and her beautiful flowers at Ranch Court in Bowling Green, Vi Lilly Circle and Bethel Lutheran Church in Grove City and Parkstone Place at Vanderbilt in Naples.
Friends may call on the family on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 9:30 AM with funeral service to follow at 11 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, 4501 Hoover Road, Grove City Ohio 43123 with Pastor Peter Ray officiating.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Bethel Lutheran Church, Salvation Army or Faith Mission.
