Arnold Arthur Anderson, born on May 30, 1939, in Charleston, West Virginia, passed away on June 24, 2026, at The Ashford at Grove City. He was a man whose devotion to education, family, and history shaped a distinguished career and a meaningful life that touched many.
Arnold’s commitment to personal achievement was evident early, graduating from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree before pursuing and earning a master’s degree in teaching from The Ohio State University. These academic accomplishments laid the foundation for a long and impactful teaching career. Arnold taught at the former Hilltonia Junior High (currently known as Hilltonia Middle School) and the former Columbus Technical Institute (currently known as Columbus State University), serving his students with dedication and inspiring generations of learners. His passion for education endured for over five decades, as evidenced by his impressive 52-year tenure before retirement.
Beyond the classroom, Arnold found great enjoyment in a variety of pursuits. He was an avid bowler and a devoted historian and researcher, with a particular zest for visiting historical sites. These interests allowed him to continually nourish his intellectual curiosity and to share his enthusiasm for history with those around him. Above all, Arnold cherished the time he spent with family and friends, valuing these relationships as central pillars of his fulfilled life.
Arnold will be deeply missed by his surviving family; son, Todd Anderson; daughter, Alyssa Anderson; grandchildren, Erik (Kotie) Mason, Troy (Amanda) Mason, Lucas (Kacey) Mason; as well as brothers, Charles “Charlie” (Sharon) Anderson, and Larry Anderson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elaine Noelle (Abbitt) Anderson, his father Charles Anderson, his mother Esther (Kimpel) Anderson, his son-in-law Randall “Scott” (Alyssa) Riley, his daughter-in-law Kelley (Mauck) (Todd) Anderson, and his sister Sandra Strom.
The influence of Arnold’s life and the memory of his kindness and wisdom will remain with all who had the privilege of knowing him. Through his work, his passions, and his steadfast love for family, Arnold Arthur Anderson created a legacy of learning, warmth, and integrity that will endure across generations.
