Ashanti Sherrod, 47
It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Ashanti Juan Sherrod. He was called home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2026.
Ashanti was born on November 28, 1978 in Columbus, OH to Charles Sherrod and Daryl Simms. Throughout his life he was known for his strength, wisdom, kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
Ashanti graduated in 1997 from Franklin Heights High School, where he participated in the NJROTC program, played on the football team, and excelled in Business Professionals of America. He went on to explore multiple career paths with his hard exterior and soft heart leading him to a profession in security. Doing security is where he would meet the love of his life, Patsy.
Ashanti married Patsy (Chicon) Sherrod on May 4, 2009. The two shared three beautiful children and 17 years of love and laughter. Building a life centered on Christ, faith, love, and family. Together they have instilled that same love in their children.
Ashanti's greatest passions were his love for Christ and his family. He became an ordained minister in 2017 and served as a chaplain in his most recent role in armed security. He also enjoyed playing chess, fishing, reading and teaching about the bible, playing board games, and just being present in every moment.
Ashanti is preceded in death by his father Charles Sherrod, his son Ashanti Sherrod Jr, and his sister Eriqa Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Patsy Sherrod; children Sofia, Gabriela, and Elijah Sherrod, and Logan Sherrod (Texas); mother Daryl Simms; sister Andrea VanSickle; brother Brian VanSickle; niece and great-niece Makaylah and Arizona VanSickle; an aunt, an uncle, and a host of other family, friends, coworkers and neighbors.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43231 on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 with calling hours from 1pm - 3pm and a Funeral Service starting at 3pm.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and honor of a life well lived.
Though he is no longer with us in person, his love, wisdom, and presence will remain in our hearts forever.
