Bernard Julius Gatti of Grove City, OH passed away suddenly on April 14, 2016. He was born September 23, 1958 in Dillon, Montana the son of Dario and JoAnn Gatti. Bernie was a graduate of both Grove City HS and Western Montana college and in both schools he lettered in football and wrestling. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and retired from teaching in Columbus City Schools. He was a loved and respected teacher and a renowned football and wrestling coach for the district where he touched the lives of many students and student athletes as they stayed in contact with him through the decades. Bernie was known for his supreme wit, unmatched by anyone. He loved dearly all his family and friends and his three pets. His final act of love was that of an organ donor.
Bernie was preceded in death by his father, Dario; his maternal grandparents, Martha and Joseph Albert, Bill Ryan,and Bud Huggins and his paternal grandparents, Guilio and Ersilia Gatti; aunt, uncle and two cousins and his mother and father in law, Eunice and Frank Catozza. He is survived by his mother JoAnn; His wife Judy; Sons, Nicholas (Shannon) Gatti and Vincent Gatti, his grandson, Lane; Sisters, Marcia Gatti (Dan Petz); Cynthia (John) Garner; Carolyn (Steve) DuChene; sisters- in-law, Vicki Catozza and Carol (Greg) Runser; nieces and nephews, Lauren (Greg), Kelsi, Tessa, James, Martha, Jill and Matt; cousins, uncles, aunts and many very special friends .
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, 4-8 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123, with the Funeral Service on Thursday, April 21, 2016, 10AM at the Funeral Home.
