Bernard Moreilhon

July 1, 1938 — January 27, 2020

Bernard J. Moreilhon, age 81 of Orlando, Florida passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona, with his loving wife and two daughters by his side.

Affectionately known as "Ben", "Frenchie", and "Tito Bernard" to his friends and family, Bernard was charming, lovable and sociable, proud of his children and honored to be an Air Force and Vietnam veteran. He was an adept and animated storyteller, who always succeeded in making you laugh.

Born in Philipsburg on the island of Sint Maarten, Netherland Antilles, he grew up on both the French and Dutch sides of the island before moving to Puerto Rico in 1956 at the age of 18 then enlisted in the US Air Force in 1958. Bernard was stationed at the US Embassy in Manila, Philippines, Luke AFB in Phoenix, AZ, K.I. Sawyer AFB outside Marquette, MI, and Clark AFB in Angeles City, Philippines, before retiring as a Master Sergeant at Hickam AFB in Honolulu, HI in 1984.

He also did a tour of duty in Vietnam and spent a year on remote assignment in Thailand. He was recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force and Army Good Conduct Medal with one oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, Air Force Longevity Service with a silver oak leaf cluster, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, among others.

Bernard then worked for the US government at Fort Shafter, HI before retiring from civil service. He then moved to Orlando, FL where he spent time enjoying the breeze off the golf course at the back of his pool home, entertaining many friends and family who visited throughout the years.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jules Henri Joseph Moreilhon, and mother, Marie Henriette Moreilhon (nee: Ledee).

He is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Bohannon-Moreilhon, daughters, Karena M. Smith and Marie T. Hammer, son, Bernard L. Moreilhon, grandchildren, Chelsea M. Lytle, Wesley W. Bradshaw, Jake A. Bradshaw, Alyssa D. Hammer, Brooke N. Moreilhon, and Breanne A. Moreilhon, brother, Pierre "Lou" Moreilhon, daughter-in-law Brenda Moreilhon, and son-in-laws Doug Smith and Jeff Hammer.

A private memorial will be held by the family on Friday, January 31, 2020 with a military service at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as Punchbowl Cemetery, in Honolulu, HI.
