Bernice V. Humes, of Columbus, died peacefully early Thursday, August 9, at Friendship Village of Dublin.
She was born on January 17, 1917, to Arthur and Hallie Humes of Kilbourne, Ohio and graduated from the Brown Township High School (Delaware Co. ) in 1934. Bernice moved to Columbus to work on the secretarial staff of the Ranco Corp. , retiring after 33 years of service. She was a long-time member of the Columbia Heights Methodist Church and served as a volunteer member of Guild #7 at Doctor's Hospital for over 25 years. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents as well as 9 siblings : Doris (Hull), Ruth (Sheehe), Jean ( Howard) , Mary (Zimmerman), Helen (Jumper), Florence (Keske), Edward Humes, Walter Humes, and Russell Humes.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and the family of her best friend Harriet Bryant: Bruce and Janice Bryant, Rob and Theresa Carder, and Roger and Kathy Bryant. Bernice will be remembered for her smiles, hugs, and servant's heart. She will deservedly hear the words spoken by her Lord, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
A memorial service will be held at the Columbia Heights Methodist Church on Thursday, August 23rd, at 11am. Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery, Kilbourne, Ohio. To leave a message for the family visit www.NewcomerColumbus.com.
