Bernice Clara Johnson was born in Bedford, Virginia, April 6, 1924, the eighth of nine children of the late Clement and Gladden Selden. Bernice resided between Washington, D.C. and Bedford as a child. She worked at the United States Mint in Philadelphia, PA.
Bernice moved to Columbus, Ohio and married Irvin Raymond Johnson in 1969. She was a stay at home wife and mother to two children. Upon the death of her husband she went to work at the Defense Construction Supply Center and later at Bank One.
Bernice attended New Salem Baptist church where she volunteered as an usher until her health declined.
Bernice was a kindhearted person, and was devoted to her family, traveling to see her one remaining brother last year when she was ninety years old. She never let her declining health stop her from assisting where she could.
Bernice is preceded in death by her husband (Irvin Raymond Johnson) and leaves behind her beloved family, daughter, Kimberly (Julius) Dobbins, son, Irvin Raymond Johnson III, grandchildren, Camille Dobbins, Andrew Dobbins, great grandchildren, Malachi Dobbins, Amira Dobbins, brother Norwood Selden and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 5pm until the time of Memorial Service at 7pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH.
