Bettie E. Smith-Powell, 91, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Bettie was born in Ridgeway, VA on September 10, 1922, to Jesse and Mary (Stultz) Watkins.
Bettie is preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.
Bettie is survived by her husband, Thomas Powell; daughters, Javona Dawson and Keyona Peck; sister, Nancy Martinez; brothers, Eugene and Mitchell Watkins; grandchildren, Aaliyah Dawson, and Javonte Davenport; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends; and the many children she reared during her lifetime whom affectionately called her "Nonnie".
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014, 11:00am – 12:00pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2188 Woodward Avenue, Columbus, OH 43219 with the Funeral Service at 12:00pm. Interment will follow at Northlawn Memory Gardens, Westerville, OH 43082.
