Betty Lee Bourekas, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, passed away on February 4, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 83. She was born on November 25, 1942, in Huntington, Pennsylvania, where she later graduated from high school in Pittsburgh. With a strong spirit and an unwavering commitment to her family, Betty dedicated her life to raising her beloved children and shaping the lives of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty's home is a sanctuary of life long memories, filled with love, laughter, and the delightful aroma of her famous chocolate chip pancakes, a breakfast treat that brought joy to her grandchildren. They fondly remember the sound of the gas stove clicking on during those cherished mornings, a simple yet profound symbol of her nurturing presence. Summertime was marked by joyous moments spent diving for quarters in the pool, a playful activity that highlighted her ability to infuse simplicity with joy and create lasting memories.
Christmas was a particularly special time in the Bourekas household, where Betty's generous spirit and creativity made each holiday magical for her family. Her passion for gardening and love for animals reflected her compassionate nature, and her enjoyment of Pittsburgh Steelers games, Hallmark Christmas movies, and the Regis and Kelly show showcased her wonderful sense of humor and relatability.
Betty found strength and solace in her Christian faith, exemplifying humility and kindness in all her interactions. Her generosity of spirit made her a beacon of light to all who knew her. Betty is also remembered by her sister-in-law, Betty Jo Houser, along with her nieces, nephews, and extended family, who cherished her for her compassion, discernment, and unwavering support.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ron Bourekas, her parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth (Seiner) Smith, and her brother, Samuel Smith. The impact of her love will resonate within her family for generations to come, as they hold fast to the indelible memories and lessons shared together.
