In Loving Memory of Candace “Candy” Lee Bergmann Finn April 22, 1945 – June 19, 2025

Candace “Candy” Lee Finn (née Bergmann) passed away peacefully at her home in Powell, Ohio, on June 19, 2025, with her sons beside her, reading from her Bible.

Born three months early on April 22, 1945, in Pittsburgh, PA, Candy came into the world unexpectedly—as the younger twin to her sister Sandy. From the start, her life was marked by deep joy, creativity, and the love of a close-knit family. She grew up with her parents, John and Lois, Sandy, and younger sister Kim—surrounded by laughter, loyalty, and strong values.

Candy graduated from Upper Arlington High School and earned her degree in dental hygiene from The Ohio State University, where she was also a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. While at OSU, she met the love of her life, James Finn, a medical student. They married in 1966 and spent nearly 59 years walking through life hand-in-hand.

She worked as a dental hygienist for many years, supporting Jim through his medical career and raising three sons as they moved from Richmond, Virginia, to Warren, Ohio, and eventually back to Columbus to be closer to family.

Candy had many talents—she was a gifted decorator, a generous host, and a woman with a deep love for beauty and order. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, and traveling with friends.

But more than anything else, she cherished time with her family. Her sons were her pride and joy, and she never missed a game, concert, or important moment in their lives. She was best friends with her sisters, talking every day, laughing often, and supporting each other through everything life handed them. And she adored her grandchildren-spoiling them unapologetically, cheering them on endlessly, and playing with them like she was one of them.

Her life was defined by quiet inner strength, grace under pressure, and a faith that sustained her through joy and hardship. Candy became a Christian as a young mother, and her relationship with Jesus shaped every aspect of her life. She served in leadership with the Christian Women’s Club and shared her faith with her parents, her sisters, and her sons. Her greatest legacy is not just the family she raised, but the lives she gently and lovingly pointed toward Christ.

In her final years, Candy faced a rare autoimmune disease and two forms of cancer with courage and unwavering faith. Though illness kept her homebound, she remained spiritually vibrant—finding peace in Scripture and comfort in one of her favorite devotionals, Streams in the Desert. Even in suffering, she radiated hope, humility, and gratitude.

Candy will be deeply missed by all who knew her—for her warmth, her kindness, her sparkle, and her steadfast love. Her smile, cheerful presence, and selflessness were a quiet but powerful force in the lives of those she touched.

She is preceded in death by her parents John and Lois Bergmann, and her beloved pets-dogs Bitzy and Snowflake, and guinea pig Honeycomb.

Candy is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Finn; her sons J.J. (Lisa), Jeff (Dawn), and Jason; and her beloved grandchildren: Jonathan (Haley), Beth, Jeffrey, Brennan, and Aislinn. She is also survived by her sisters Sandy Stoller (Jack) and Kim Elkovitch (Jim), and her extended family, including Kerrie, Ian, Brian, and Megan Donahue; Tricia, Dave, and Kate Kershner; and Molly (Seth) Owens.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Candy’s life will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, OH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Candy’s memory to the American Cancer Society or another organization devoted to cancer research.
