Carl Willis Pugh, affectionately known as "Pap," passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on July 20, 1945, Carl lived a life rich in love and community, marked by his warm personality and dedication to his family.
For over 20 years, Carl and his beloved wife, Carol, owned and operated their carryout called "Gaslite," where they became a cherished part of the local community. After retiring from their business, Carl lent his skills to Sears distribution, the YMCA, and finally Market Day, where he continued to touch the lives of those around him.
Carl was known for being laid back and friendly, reminiscent of everyone's grandpa. He loved talking to people and had a calm, reassuring presence that made everyone feel comfortable in his company. A protector of his family, he welcomed friends and family alike into his home with open arms.
Photography was one of Carl's great passions; he even owned a dark room at one point. Additionally, he had a special love for holidays, especially Halloween, when he would happily hand out candy and go all out with decorations. His love of music, particularly Elvis tunes, often filled the air around him. A dedicated Ohio State fan, he enjoyed every moment spent with his wife and granddaughter. Each year, he delighted in dressing up as Santa to deliver dozens of cookies that he and Carol baked together.
Carl took immense pride in the life he built alongside Carol over their 59 years of marriage. His greatest accomplishments included raising his sons and watching them grow into wonderful men, as well as cherishing the time spent with his granddaughter, Madeline, whom he adored.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Carol Pugh; sons Shad (Emma) Pugh and Jerry (Michele) Hickman; granddaughter Madeline Pugh; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Ward Pugh, and mother, Lucille Peacock.
Visitation for Carl will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest in Grove City, Ohio, on October 17, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His funeral service will follow on October 18, 2025, at 9:00 AM, also at the Newcomer Funeral Home, with interment to follow.
Carl will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering love for his family. He touched the lives of many, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
