Carol Jane Rakes

Carol Jane Rakes, a devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 87. She was born on March 14, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio, where she lived her entire life.

Carol cherished her family and is survived by her loving children: Della Massie, Steve Rakes, Rick Rakes, Donnie (Angie) Rakes, and Jody (David) York. She was also a proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren: Joey, Crystal, Jonathan, Nicole, Dusty, Ryan, Shawn, Kayla, Samantha, Donney, Michael and Jordan. Carol had the joy of having 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, who added immense love and laughter to her life.

Carol will be remembered for her passions, which included supporting the Ohio State Buckeyes football team and the Cincinnati Bengals football team. She enjoyed working in her yard and flower beds, as well as spending time camping outdoors.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Thelma (Cosner) Pierce and son, Dale Massie. She also mourned the loss of her brothers, Bill, Robert, and George Pierce, along with her sister, Peggy Ray.

A graveside service will be held at Obetz Cemetery in Obetz, Ohio, on February 25, 2026. The service will begin at 11:00 AM. The cemetery is located at 4455 Groveport Road, Obetz, OH 43207.

Carol Jane Rakes will be remembered for her warm heart and the love she shared with her family.
