CHAD RANKIN
1993-2015
Chad Rankin, 21, of Westerville, OH, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 in Indianapolis.
He was born on September, 29, 1993 in Hammond, IN to his surviving parents, Robert (Rob) and Jeri Ann Rankin. He is also survived by his brother Marc and sister Chandler, both at home, and his maternal grandmother, Jo Ann Chandler of Highland, IN, along with his four uncles, aunts and nine cousins.
Chad was a 2011 graduate of the St. Charles Preparatory School in Columbus, OH. Chad was an outstanding student and earned National Merit Commended Scholar designation. He was a member of the St. Charles Varsity Swim Team, and earned four letters. He spent many summers swimming for his neighborhood swim team, the Annehurst Piranhas, where he set a team record and league records, eventually becoming a coach and lifeguard at his pool.
Chad earned a Presidential Scholarship to Butler University in Indianapolis, where he pursued a biomedical engineering degree in a dual partnership with Purdue University. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and was chosen to attend the Horizons Leadership Development in Utah in 2012.
He enjoyed following international soccer, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Indianapolis Colts. He loved fishing of all types, crabbing, and anything related to the beach and the ocean.
He will be long-remembered for his great grin, and his subtle, wry sense of humor.
A Celebration Service of Chad's life will be conducted at First Presbyterian Church, 41 W. College Ave, Westerville, OH at 1:00 PM, Friday, June 12, led by Rev. Mark Gauen, where Chad was a long-time member, active in youth groups and the Youth Hand-Bell Choir.
