Charles J. Sanders, affectionately known as "Charlie," age 74 of Columbus, Ohio, departed this life on November 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Charlie was born on November 27, 1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana, but grew up in Martinsville, Indiana, where he developed his deep-rooted sense of community and love for life.
Charlie leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, remembered fondly by his beloved wife, Jada M. Scott-Sanders; his children, Charles (Rodney) Sanders and his wife, Jamie; Anthony (Toney) Scott and his wife, Nicki; Maria Scott; and his adoring grandchildren, Caleb, Christian, and Kyla Sanders; Tray, Anthony, Champagne, Arrman, Jalen, Giovanni, and Jamari Scott. He is also survived by his brother, David Sanders and his wife, Fawn; his sister, Candy Butler; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A proud veteran, Charlie carried his love of patriotism and service in his heart. He was honored to serve in the Army, dedicating himself to a life of commitment and duty. He continued to embody these values as the Chaplain for AMVETS Post 89, where he found purpose in serving his fellow veterans.
Charlie enjoyed a fulfilling career at DSCC, where he met his beloved wife, Jada. They celebrated their love story, marrying on February 14, 1997, and sharing 28 wonderful years filled with joy and companionship.
Favorite memories of Charlie include his unwavering love for his community and the joy he found in festive celebrations.
A true kid at heart, Charlie brought magic to every holiday. For years he transformed the front yard each Christmas, fully committed to character each Halloween, and was always the first to buy fireworks for the Fourth of July. His personality and way of life proclaimed he would march to the beat of his own drum.
Preceding Charlie in death are his parents, William Rodney Sanders and Florence Catherine (Schmidt) Sanders, and his brother, Jimmy.
Visitation will be held on November 14, 2025, from 4-7PM at 3047 E Dublin Granville Rd, Columbus, OH 43231 (Newcomers). An Honor Guard service will be conducted at 6:15 PM by AMVETS Post 89.
