Charles Harry Rice, son of the late Mattie (Shackleford) and Jesse James Rice Sr. was born June 21, 1935 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Departed this life on Wednesday, September 11, 2019.
He accepted Christ at an early age as his personal savior.
He attended Dunbar Public School in Lexington. He relocated to Columbus in 1956.
Charles joined 2nd Shiloh Baptist Church under the direction of Pastor Christopher Bond in 2015.
He was employed with Columbus Board of Education and the State of Ohio Youth Corrections until retirement.
He loved listening to gospel music and reading the Bible and listening to his audio bible.
He was very active in the Olentangy Lodge #521 until he was stricken with his illness. He was a PGER II, PSP, Brigadier General Antler Guard, Chief Antler of Central District, Ohio State Association Central District, Trustee of Elks Lodge #521, President of the Building Fund, PERC II Council Central District, Management Team Olentangy Lodge #521, and serve briefly as Chief Antler.
Preceded in death by his parents; siblings Gladys Talbert, John Shackleford Sr., Margaret Rice Wilburn, Jesse Rice, Clara Dunkin; niece Marlene Stevens; and dear friend Sylvia Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and caring companion of 37 years, Mary Pleasant; children Ewann Clay, Priscilla Pleasant, Letitsha Pleasant, Keith (Johnette) Pleasant Sr., Sheila (Desmond) Ijomah, Brian Durr, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and dear friend John Bell.
