Charles Vernon “Chuck” Shafer, Jr., 83, of Grove City, Ohio, passed away on May 31, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Charles V. and Helen (Sudyk) Shafer. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice (Mockler); his sons Scott (Natalie) and Ryan (Jackie); his grandchildren Ian, Ellise, and Gavin; siblings Susan and Jim; and other beloved family members and friends. Along with his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by his brother Brad.
Chuck studied at Kent State University, where he received his BA. He worked as a graphic designer and art director for several advertising agencies in the Cleveland area. When he wasn’t at work, Chuck loved to fish, golf, listen to music, play cards, spend time with family, and enjoy quiet time outdoors. He was a skilled draftsman and had a deep appreciation for the natural world. While unfailingly modest, humble, and unassuming, Chuck reveled in a good joke, practical or impractical, and was quick to provide a witty comment or aside. He cherished his time in Florida, including family vacations with Jim and Joyce Fasilis, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and their son Brian, and he had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews.
