Charles Samuel Sharpton

June 13, 1931 — April 26, 2017

Charles "Porkchops" Samuel Sharpton born June 13, 1931 in Covington GA, went home to heaven Wednesday April 26, 2017. He was a 1950 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville FL where he was affectionately known as "Little Lou". He attended John B. Stetson Jr. College (FL) and Southwest Mississippi College. He served in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Korean War. During his high school, college and army days he played football and was captain of the 3rd Armored Division in Germany and was a big fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed going to church, passing out candy to the kids, singing in the choir, serving in the bus ministry and as a deacon, in addition to working in the Juvenile Ministry with his wife Irene during the time they lived in Kettering, OH. While living in Columbus he loved to go on Church Visitation and take people out to eat a good meal. He was known for his "Bib Overalls" he wore daily since the day he retired from working.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Aubrey James and Annie Ideal (Tankersley) Sharpton (GA); sister and brother, Edna Bledsoe and Aubrey James "Jim" Sharpton; wife "Renee" Irene Mae (DeLong) Sharpton and Daughter "Chubby" Vanessa Lynn Sharpton; parents-in-law, Lloyd C and Mary Ann (Rutherford) DeLong; sisters-in-law Mary Lou (Roy) Miller, Betty (Fred) Neimeister and Barbara Ann Neff.

He is survived by son, "Bobby" Robert Lloyd Sharpton (Cols), daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and "Bob" Robert J Goodwin (Cols), his grandsons "Rob" Robert James-Thomas Goodwin and "Chaz" Charles Samuel Goodwin (Cols), John Charles Sharpton and granddaughter Stephanie Sharpton, great-granddaughter Kyleigh Paige Goodwin (FL), great-grandsons Ryan James-Thomas Goodwin and "Joey" Ashton Josiah-Samuel Goodwin (Cols) and special treasure "Princess Noel", brother-in-law Charles Neff (Cols) and sister-in-law Janice Sharpton (GA); nieces Shirley (Gary) Whaley (Cols), Christy (Gerald) Felice (Cols), Sandra (Ken) Wagner (Oh), Tammy (Billy) Bentley (Cols), Theresa (Steve) McKenzie (Galloway), Audrey (James) Usry (GA) and nephews Carl Miller (Cols), Fred (Churrn Lee) Neimeister (Cols), Karl (Jen) Neimeister (Cols), Charles Dale Martin (VA), James Sharpton (GA) and cousin Sara Alice (Jackson) Hancock (GA) and many other family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday April 30, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, from 1-3pm. A service will be held on Monday May 1, 2017 at the funeral home starting at 11am. Pastor John Meade will be officiating the service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Charles memory.
