Charles Lloyd Smith, 73, passed away on November 6, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 25, 1940 to Lester and Jane Duncan Smith in Fayette City, Pennsylvania.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Robert and Gary Smith.

He is survived by his son Timothy Smith; son, Todd Smith and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Evan and Grant Smith; brother, Ron Smith; sisters, Erma Newman, Lola Rudge, and Annette Maurer; nephew, Rick (Laurie) Smith; nieces, Caroline and Lucy; nieces, Lori and Haley; nephew, Brady; multiple other nieces and nephews; step-son, Jason Shaw and wife Carmen; step-son, Jeramy Shaw; granddaughter, Amber Bumgardner to whom Charles was very close; and Amber's mother, Sabrina Doggette.

Charles was a Lieutenant Colonel US Army (retired) after 21 years of service, including 3 years in the US Navy as a hospital corpsman. He received his Master's Degree in Nursing from UAH Huntsville, AL and specialized in operating room nursing throughout his career. During his time in the service, his awards included a Meritorious Service Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal. Charles was a high-energy individual who enjoyed numerous activities including bowling, playing pool, golfing, and fishing. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family.

Visitation for Charles will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 1:00pm-2:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, OH 43231 followed by Funeral Services at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Charles L. Smith.
