It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chelsey Anne Hundertpfund (Kiehborth), 43, of Ostrander, Ohio, who left us far too soon on May 28, 2026. Chelsey lived a life defined by adventure, unbridled joy, and an utter devotion to her family and friends.
Chelsey’s journey began on September 23, 1982, as the second of five children born to David Kiehborth and Amy Sowers. Growing up alongside her brother and three sisters, Chelsey’s wild spirit made her the natural ringleader for all manner of excitement and adventure. She lit up and became even more animated when she shared stories of their summers spent at the family’s remote cabin in Canada.
Attending Eastern Michigan University on a swimming scholarship, Chelsey majored in Biology with a dual minor in Spanish and Chemistry, graduating with honors. Her next years were spent teaching English in South Korea and Ecuador, with solo travels taking her to Cambodia, Thailand, India, South Africa and The Galápagos Islands.
Chelsey’s greatest adventure began when she returned home to complete her student teaching at Dublin Coffman High School. There, she met her soulmate and favorite travel companion, Brett Hundertpfund. Affectionately referring to each other as “high school sweethearts,” Brett and Chelsey built a life centered around their shared love of nature, travel, and adventure. Whether hiking, camping, biking, skiing, or exploring new corners of the world, they approached every experience as a team.
Among their many adventures was a trip to Kalalau Beach on Kauai, where, beneath a sky full of stars, Brett proposed using rings they crafted together from local Ti leaves. Their wedding at Hueston Woods State Park perfectly reflected their adventurous spirits, ending with guests ziplining through the trees.
It would only be right that when they added to their pack, they would take inspiration from the most special of places. Gatton Jay and Marcy Anne Hundertpfund were named after Gatton Rocks in Bellville, OH, and Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks. With their pack complete, Chelsey was able to create a magical home filled with music, dancing, laughter, and boundless love. While she spent her days inspiring countless high school students at Worthington Kilbourne to love science and learning, her true joy was raising her kids to be as wild and free as she was.
Her legacy lives on through her husband, Brett, and their children, Gatton and Marcy. She will be forever remembered by her mother, Amy (Terry) Sowers, her mother-in-law, Cindy Hundertpfund, and her siblings and their families: Emily & Chad Jenkins (parents of Aubrey & Bryce); Leah & Dave Richards (parents of Charlotte & David); Lydia Kiehborth & Matt Zalla (parents of Quentin, Ira, & Vivian); and Devin & Jerica Kiehborth (parents of Rowan, Leighton, & Palmer); sister-in-law, Holly & husband, Tim Belby (parents of Owen & Julia). Chelsey holds a special place in heaven alongside her infant niece, Leona Richards, who preceded her in death.
Chelsey lived a life that was impossible to quantify in words. She had a gentleness of spirit that disarmed everyone around her. What she gave to everyone lucky enough to meet her was a feeling of warmth, excitement, and pure unconditional love.
A celebration of Chelsey's life will be held on Saturday June 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Radiant Life Church, located at 7100 Post Rd, Dublin, OH 43016. This would have been Chelsey and Brett’s 11th wedding anniversary. All who knew and loved her are invited to attend and honor her beautiful spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gatton and Marcy’s 529 savings account funds set up for their future education. Contributions can be made online via the following links:
