Chris Shidaker, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and cherished friend, passed away on April 20, 2026, in Marysville, Ohio. Born on December 30, 1971, in Wilmington, Ohio, Chris spent his life filling every room he was in with laughter, and he was loved by anyone who had the opportunity to know him. Above all else, Chris was devoted to providing love and stability to his family. No matter the circumstances, Chris was a pillar of strength for all of those around him.
A graduate of Marion Franklin High School in 1990, Chris worked at Big Bear, where he made lifelong friendships until the company went out of business. From there he began a decades long career at Mars Pet Foods, always working hard and bringing a good mood to all of those around him. Through chaotic schedules, good days, and bad days, Chris always did his job well, and with a smile. As always, anyone he worked with became a friend. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chris was also the undisputed champion of laughter with his friends and family. From founding the PPC, and frequently renewing his membership (if you know, you know), Chris was always all in on a good joke. You could be out to dinner and he would pop in his fake hillbilly teeth just to get a laugh, or he’d take the long way home to drive past a golf course to honk at golfers mid-swing. Chris was the original BLUH-HUH bandit, and nobody was safe from that! No matter the situation, Chris could, and would, find humor.
Chris’s passions extended far beyond his sense of humor. An avid fisherman, Chris loved and opportunity to cast a line out to see if anything was biting, finding true contentment on calm days with clear waters and good friends. You may have even been lucky enough to take a ride on his “nice boat” at Alum Creek, and if you did, I can only hope you wore your life jacket. Despite being a fully grown, responsible adult, Chris loved SpongeBob SquarePants, the Smurfs, and any show with juvenile humor that would make him laugh, and this underscored his effectiveness as a grandparent; you’re never an old man if you’re a kid at heart, and grandchildren gravitate towards and respect that energy. Chris loved his grandchildren, Everleigh and Ainsley, with his entire heart. There was never a situation where he would be unwilling to stop what he was doing to sit and make them laugh with cat videos or just the silliness that came with being Chris Shidaker. When not entertaining the kids or fishing, you would almost certainly see him harassing the local Facebook groups, always causing an uproar to get a laugh. There are few people that would dedicate the time he did to being nothing short of a menace online. From Hilliard car clubs to the Facebook page for the Columbus Police, nobody was safe from his comments. All who knew Chris also knew how quick he was to voice his objections to any restaurant or establishment that had wronged him in some way, with the worst offenders being put on his “Banned List”. It became such a running joke that everyone in the family had their own lists thanks to him. You couldn’t attend a birthday party without hearing Chris give a sarcastic “Neat!” during the opening of gifts. These unspoken traditions will undoubtedly last through generations of our family.
The greatest pride in Chris’s life was his family; his wife of 33 years, Shauna (Doughty) Shidaker, his daughters Brooke Shidaker and Madison (Trenton) Morrow, and his grandchildren, Everleigh and Ainsley Shidaker. He also leaves behind his mother Virginia (Chris) McCargish, his siblings Shelli (Damien) McGhee, Jeff Morgan, Sarah Shidaker, and Ryan Shidaker, as well
as his stepmother Susan Shidaker. His circle of love extended to nephews Devin (Moiya) Shidaker and Kurt (Kaitlynn) Keyser, grandmother Joan McCargish, uncles Bill (Tammy) Kocher and Jim Kocher, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, each holding a treasured place in his heart.
Chris faced the profound loss of his father Edwin Shidaker, grandparents Morris and Jean Shidaker and Joe and Wilma Kocher, James McCargish, nephew Justin Shidaker, and a special daughter, Melanie Jorgensen. Despite these losses, his resilience and humor never faded, a testament to his enduring spirit and his determination to keep everyone around him smiling.
Friends and family are invited to honor Chris’s extraordinary life at the visitation on April 23, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio. The funeral service will immediately follow from 6:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on April 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Oak Dale Cemetery, 1290 W Fifth St., Marysville, Ohio, where loved ones will gather to pay their final respects.
Chris Shidaker will always be loved, and never be forgotten. His presence, humor and energy will forever be present in any room where his family is, because there is simply too much love there for it to ever fade.
Chris was a person that was loved, admired, and respected by anyone who knew him. A truly selfless person.
Blap-blap, bluh-huh, and LB, dude.
