Listen to Obituary

Constance Janene (Layman) Hegstrom, a gifted author, speaker, and lifelong creator, passed away peacefully in Dublin, OH, on April 7, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born in Spencer, Iowa, on September 8, 1943, Constance’s journey took her from the heart of the Midwest to the mountains of Colorado. She was educated at Corpus Christi and St. Mary’s High School before earning her degree from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS).

On June 8, 1963, Constance married the love of her life, the late Roger J. Hegstrom. Together, they built a life defined by family, intellectual pursuit, and a shared love of seeing the world.

A woman of sharp wit and boundless imagination, Constance was a distinguished author of both books and articles. Her dedication to her craft was reflected in her longtime memberships in the Authors Guild and the Mystery Writers of America. Her voice was not only heard through her writing but also at the podium; she was a celebrated speaker and an active member of Toastmasters, where she inspired many with her eloquence.

Beyond her professional achievements, she was a gourmet cook who found joy in the kitchen, a skilled seamstress, and a passionate gardener. Her home was often filled with the sounds of her piano playing, a testament to her lifelong love of music.

She is survived by her devoted sons, Robert (Rebecca) Hegstrom of Woodbridge, VA and Gregory (Cynthia) Hegstrom of Dublin, OH. She also leaves behind her siblings: Ralph (Phyllis) Layman of Aurora, CO; Michele (the late Donald) DeMott of Nashua, NH; Bette (Jerry Greenblatt) Layman of Denver, CO; and James (Brenda) Layman of Fort Collins, CO.

Constance will be remembered for her mind, her spirit, and the grace she brought to every endeavor.
