David Lloyd Beets

August 6, 1946 — June 4, 2025

David Lloyd Beets, known by most as Dave, left to be with those he so dearly missed on June 4th, 2025. He was 78 years old and he made sure to tell everyone that he had lived a good life. Dave was born in Oakridge, TN on August 6th, 1946 to the late Lloyd Beets and Marian Birle. He grew up in Grove City, OH along with his late brother, Michael Beets. It is here that he found his passion for baseball that would span his entire life. Young Davey was a natural athlete but pitching was his greatest ability. As his high school coach stated he had “the best hands he had ever seen.” He graduated from Grove City High School in 1964. After attending Ohio University, Dave began his apprenticeship to become an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a loyal union electrician for the IBEW Local 683 for 56 years. Dave was proud to be a union electrician and truly cared for and enjoyed the many people he worked with.

Being an avid sports fan, Dave spent most of his free time either bowling or golfing in his many leagues. He truly enjoyed his time with all his buddies, drinking a few beers and playing a few games. Even though golf was where he wished he excelled, it was bowling that gave him multiple awards, including two 300 games. He also liked to fish when he had the time and cheering for his Chicago Cubs. Go Cubbies! Dave had a love for cars like no other. He could never be trusted to get an oil change alone or he most likely would come home with a new car. Dave loved driving just a little too fast, with the windows down and the music volume up. One of his greatest enjoyments was going out to eat with family and having some delicious food with a bloody mary or margarita. He also had great joy in watching his grandchildren participating in any sport or activity as he loved being a Pop-Pop.

Dave had the biggest heart and brought a smile to anyone he ever met. He was a bright light and true gentleman that brought joy to so many. Even in his worst moments, he always tried to have a smile and be the bright spot in someone else’s day. Dave was also a true animal lover. He loved all animals but dogs captured his heart. He loved and adored his three labs, Max, Rocky and Ben and they loved him just as much. Dave absolutely loved taking them swimming and hitting golf balls for them to chase.

Dave’s greatest joy in life were his girls. He had great pride when he spoke about his girls to anyone that would listen. He loved them all “super much.” and his big hugs will never be forgotten. He is survived by Cassie (Jeff) Clark, Kim (Rob) Wells, Kellie Love, Edie (Craig) Nash, Marnie (Keith) DeVault, 19 grandchildren that he adored and several great grandchildren. He also enjoyed a special relationship with surviving step-sons Jeff (Nicky) Smith and Jamie (Sabina) Smith and with his niece, Angie Hartig. Dave also had a lifelong friendship with Kathy Koehler who supported him and his daughters through it all. Along with his father, mother and brother, Dave is also preceded in death by his beloved daughter Missie “Pup” Beets and great-grandson Leo.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to your local humane society in Dave’s name or donate blood to the American Red Cross as he was a regular and universal donor.
