David Howard Brokaw, born October 12, 1942, in Cambridge, Ohio, and raised in London, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Jesus on February 26, 2026. He married Leslie (Cowell) Brokaw of Providence, Rhode Island, on March 5, 1966, and together they shared 60 years of marriage. They had been residents of Grove City, Ohio, since 1971.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Moore Brokaw of Cambridge, Ohio, and Carrie Ruth (Wilson) Brokaw of Russellville, Ohio, as well as by his beloved grandson, Aidan Robert McMahon of Dublin, Ohio.
David graduated from London High School in 1961. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965, serving aboard the USS Independence (CV-62) for 39 months and later the USS Lake Champlain (CV-39) for eight months. It was during this time that he met Leslie, the love of his life.
Following his military service, David completed a seven-year apprenticeship and went on to work as a master wood pattern maker for more than 50 years. He owned and operated Ohio Pattern LLC for the final 17 years of his career before retiring.
David is survived by his dear wife, Leslie; his two children, Dawn Malissa B. McMahon and Robert (Bob) David Brokaw; his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Jean Tavenner Brokaw; his grandchildren, Liam Mark McMahon, Robert Riley Brokaw, Madison Ann Brokaw, and Carter David Brokaw; his great-grandson, Aidan Stephen McMahon; his sister, Georgeanne B. Weydemeyer; his nephew, Aaron D. (Mika) Simpkins; and his grandniece, Lina Carrie Simpkins.
David was a passionate bicyclist for 45 years. He was an active member of AYH and Columbus Outdoor Pursuits, where he led many Monday night bicycle rides. He established the annual “Ride the Darby” and participated in numerous challenging rides, including cycling across the United States. He also completed the Tour of the Scioto River Valley (TOSRV) a total of 35 times.
Over the years, David was a faithful member of London Methodist Church, Grove City United Methodist Church, Redeemers Church West, and Amazing Grace Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amazing Grace Christian Church for missions at www.myagcc.org/give.
Friends may gather for visitation at Amazing Grace Christian Church, 2255 Quail Creek Blvd., Grove City, Ohio 43123, on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m., with lunch to follow. Pastor Tom Alexander will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Newcomer Southwest Chapel.
