David H. Casey, age 78, of Grove City, OH, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025. David “Dave” was born on October 9, 1946, in Lowville, NY. He was the son of the late Henry Casey and the late June McNeil. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War as an Airman 3rd Class and was Honorably Discharged in April 1967. David loved collecting Hockey and Baseball cards, he was a die-hard Michigan Wolverines fan, and you would often see him supporting “his” team by sporting his Wolverines attire and hats. He was a hard worker who was dedicated to his craft. He spent over 50 years working in the construction field with many as a Superintendent. Though David may not have liked being the center of attention, he embodied integrity, kindness, and generosity; and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He was a man of God who loved his family, friends, church family, and his beloved dog, Blue. He was a member of the Lower Lights Community Church of the Nazarene in Columbus, OH. He enjoyed volunteering and giving back to his church and community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Casey and June McNeil; first wife, Mary Ritter Casey, and second wife of 39 years, Jeanette Shadowens Gordon Casey; his two sisters, Carol Lounsberry and Shirley Hebert; his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Bernadette Casey; and his dogs, K.C. and Cuddles.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Casey and his wife, Amy, along with their children: Nicholas, Rosemary, and Olivia of Waxhaw, NC; his two daughters: Jackie Stachnik of Grove City, OH and her partner, Ronald Ritzel Sr., of Marcy, NY; Whitney Fritz and her husband, Lee, of Baltimore, MD; and his two stepsons: Jeromy Gordon and his son, Tate, of Quakertown, PA; Matthew Gordon and his wife, Mandy, along with their children, Robert and Jocelynn, and great-grandson, Maverick, of Webster, MA. He also leaves behind a brother-in-law, Joe Hebert, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and members of his late wife's family. In addition, David will be missed by many friends with special mention of Dan and Diane; Emmalyn and her parents; Pastor Chuck and Donna; Tom and Tina; Jeremy and Annie; Terri; Linda; his part-time caregiver, Synite and his best friend- his beloved dog, Blue.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 2pm at the Lower Lights Community Church of the Nazarene, 1066 Bellows Ave., Columbus, OH 43223. A Military Burial will follow on Monday, May 19th at 9am at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third St., Dayton, OH 45428. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of David H. Casey to Lower Lights Community Church of the Nazarene or Speak for the Unspoken Animal Rescue in Grove City, OH.
We find comfort in knowing that David's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever. We love you. Rest in peace, Dad.
